Central Office

Not just an Office but the Heart Beat of AA – Your Central Office
“The Intergroup (Central Office) associations are the best insurance we can have that our life lines to the hundreds of thousands yet to come will never break or tangle. Let us always be generous. Let us warmly support Intergroup.”- Bill W., 1949

A Central Office is an A.A. service center that involves partnership among groups in the community – just as A.A. groups themselves are a partnership of individuals. It carries out certain functions common to all the A.A. groups – functions, which are usually maintained, supervised, and supported by these groups in their general interests. It exists to aid the groups in the common purpose of carrying the message the alcoholic who still suffers.

In 1963, 20 A.A. meetings in the Denver Metro Area saw an expressed need for a Central Office. It wasn’t until 1966 that the Central Office found its first home at 2801 E. Colfax. The office was established by the area AA groups to help perform services which would be difficult for individual groups to perform alone. Fast-forward half a century and the Central Office is still performing the same vital work for the groups as it did back then. It has flourished and continues to do so as an integral part of the Denver area fellowship.

Groups are encouraged to send a representative (Central Office Delegate) to our monthly meeting where the two way flow of information takes place. Central Office is a part of A.A. and we cooperate with A.A. in Colorado (Area 10) as well as the Districts we serve.

Although this may be informative, the best way to really understand your Central Office is to come and visit us. Have a cup of coffee and hang out. You can hear the volunteers answer the phones, talk to the new drunk who needs help, and set them up with a 12 Step call. Pick up some flyers about A.A. events happening in our fellowship. Get a new colorful meeting book that is published by the Office. Check out the wide array of AAWS and Grapevine literature. These are only a part of the vital functions that your Central Office does on a daily basis. But most of all we hope that you come and see the unity of the entire fellowship in the Denver Metro Area as well the sense of service and responsibility to help the still suffering alcoholic. The miracle happens when one alcoholic talks to another alcoholic and your Central Office acts as a first point of contact for our future members.

Is your group represented?

If not, you should consider it, so that your group can have a voice in operating our Intergroup/Central Office. “Being a Trusted Servant in the Denver Area Central Committee”

Where are the Central Office Delegates’ Meetings?

Each group is asked to send a Central Office Delegate to the monthly meeting on the
1st Tuesday at 6:30pm. Currently we are meeting virtually. For more information about attending email us.

Supporting the Central Office

TWO WAYS THAT YOU CAN HELP SUPPORT YOUR CENTRAL OFFICE
Intergroup/Central Office is supported by the voluntary contributions of the individual members and the AA groups. Many individuals enroll in Faithful Fivers, pledging a minimum of $5.00 per month to support the Central Office. Another program is THE BIRTHDAY PLAN, where in grateful celebration of their sobriety birthdays, many AA members contribute one dollar or more for each year of sobriety to any or all of the four service entities: The Central Office, The General Service Office, Area 10 or the District.

  1. Participate in THE BIRTHDAY PLAN or give through FAITHFUL FIVERS!
  2. Some members choose to give annually on their birthday! Some members give monthly. Click to download Faithful Fivers enrollment form
